Planting tree seeds
The background
We like to think almost every physical fax installation is avoidable. If a there is a fax service and it isn't using a virtual fax solution like UTBox it's very likely a waste of consumables, energy and most of all paper!
For this reason we've been giving out tree seeds. The specific act of giving them out is small, but we hope to encourage dialogue on the important issue of climate change and responsible environmental awareness.
We hope you give these to your kids, tell them why it's important to care for the environment - after all it will be theirs. If you don't have kids plant it yourself or give it to a friend.
Plant and Planting Information
The planting instructions are:
- Choose a suitable container with drainage holes.
- Fill with seed raising compost and firm down gently.
- Water generously with fine spray and leave for 30 minutes to allow water to soak into the compost.
- Break off each seedstick carefully and push it point first into the compost up to the printed depth line.
- When seedlings emerge leave the stick in position and allow the strongest plant to grow on.
CeBIT Day 1 and 2 (May 12 and 13)
"Eucalyptus Camaldulensis", aka Red River Gum.
This Australian native is well known for providing shade in the harsh sun, stabilising river banks and stopping erosion. Well adapted to Australian conditions it's also found a home in many countries around the world. When selecting a place to grow please remember red river gum can grow to around 40-45 metres, we've even heard of a 700 year old one!
Germination time: 21-28 days Seed to flower: 24-36 weeks
CeBIT Day 3 (May 14th)
"Callistemon Citrinus", aka Lemon Scented Bottlebrush. An Australian shrub with a distinctive red flower which appears in summer and autumn. Likes wet conditions and are considered excellent garden plants. This will attract nectar feeding birds and insects and tolerate drought, dampness, frost and limited maintenance. We like this one particularly for these qualities. Germination time: 10-14 days Seed to flower: 24-36 weeks
